As I write this Bradley Wiggins is ascending towards the finish of Stage 9 in the Vuelta de España, 1:43 down on leader Rodriguez, as he attempts to make up for a dismal Tour de France where he fell out of the race.
Along with my charges then in France from the National Autistic Society, both Bradley & David Brailsford Sky Procycling manager gave us all a little of their time for photos and handshakes. What gentlemen!
Another high for me this year was meeting Cadel Evans, just after his "taste of things to come Albert" victory at Mur de Bretagne. I can't not mention that as a BMC fan on a cool SLR01 that I am still euphoric after BMC's very honorable Tour victory!
I'm embarrassed to say that Hincapie totally blanked me again, 3rd year on the trot, what's eating you George?, however Vinokournov did give me the time of day, as he was going to have lots of it soon. Cancellara kept his Swiss timepiece but joked that I wanted his bike instead, which despite being Swiss, shows his sense of humor, in as much as that I would ever want a Trek!
The Etape I & II both produced surprises including the weather in that all the participants of the Cycle Gran Canaria Etape Training Camp back in Feb, all finished well and in the case of Stanley Markland finished well and in one piece, so well done that man!
So if you as a cyclist plan to get over France way in 2012 for the Tour or Etapes and want to see the action a little up close and personal like, then you'll do well to come with us on our planned events there in July 2012 of you fancy a spin from Belgium down to Luxembourg ;-))
And if you want to have a better 2012, you'd do well if you came out to Gran Canaria this coming freezing winter (I kid you not) for a little sunshine and some great riding on the best, the greatest, the one,the only, Gran Canaria!
Happy & safe riding
