Exhibición ante Holanda para llegar a semifinales (88-50)

La selección española se impuso a Holanda en cuartos de final y lo hizo a lo grande. Venciendo y convenciendo ante un combinado oranje que siempre tuvo que ir a remolque ante los ataques del equipo dirigido por Miguel Méndez

Al final la naranja no fue tan mecánica. La selección española ganó a Holanda por 88-50 y consigue su billete para las semifinales del torneo. Las de Miguel Méndez no dieron ninguna opción a la selección holandesa y firmaron su pase a las semifinales de la mejor manera posible. Sara Rodríguez, Elena de Alfredo, Marles Balart, Astou Ndour y Andrea Vilaró, por encima de los 10 puntos.

ESPAÑA PONE LOS CIMIENTOS (22-11) 22-11
Astou Ndour ganó el salto inicial y rápidamente anotó la primera canasta del partido. La selección española volvió a sorprender durante los primeros minutos al anotar un parcial de 7-0 a las holandesas. No obstante, Holanda quiso reaccionar y pronto comenzó a anotar canastas. Pero la defensa en zona de las neerlandesas era un colador ante los ataques españoles, que entraban de todas las maneras y desquiciaban a las holandesas. Las españolas, lideradas por Marles Balart y Sara Rodríguez, volaban en el marcador y se gustaban en la cancha. El 22-11 al final del primer cuarto no era más que el comienzo del recital español.

VELOCIDAD DE CRUCERO (22-12) 44-23
Si en el primer cuarto Sara Rodriguez lideró a la selección española, en el segundo continuó ejerciendo este liderato. Apoyada también por jugadoras como Andrea Vilaró, la selección española seguía asfixiando poco a poco al combinado oranje. Los tiros entraban y el juego desplegado en el Toni Alexe Arena era muy bueno. En el otro bando, Holanda era incapaz de seguir el asfixiante ritmo anotador de España. La baja aportación desde el banquillo tulipán (5 puntos de la segunda unidad neerlandesa por 20 de la española) condenaba a un equipo que al descanso perdía de 21 puntos (44-23).

SINFONÍA DE BALONCESTO EN ORADEA (26-9)
El paso por los vestuarios no influyó para mal en la selección española. Es más, aumentó su ritmo para sentenciar el partido. La zona 2-1-2 que volvieron a aplicar las holandesas para ralentizar el ritmo del partido no hizo más que seguir aumentando la brecha de puntos en el marcador y aumentar la diferencia de puntos para España. Astou Ndour continuaba dando un recital bajo los tableros, para más sufrimiento de las interiores neerlandesas. La feroz defensa realizada por España dejó en 9 puntos a Holanda y el partido sentenciado al final del tercer cuarto con el marcador de 70-32.

LA SEGUNDA UNIDAD, SUMA Y SIGUE (18-18)
En el último cuarto ambos equipos mantuvieron un ritmo bastante igualado. Las jugadoras neerlandesas aplicaron un juego más basado en el contacto físico durante los primeros minutos del periodo, a lo que respondió España con buen juego y anotación. Miguel Méndez dio entrada durante este último cuarto a las jugadoras que salen habitualmente desde el banquillo, y estas siguieron sumando para la selección española. Un triple de Elena de Alfredo ponía la máxima diferencia para España (77-38) a falta de poco más de cuatro minutos, pero al final del encuentro el marcador evidenció el dominio de las ibéricas ante las neerlandesas. 88-50 y a semifinales.

Women Spain are bringing down opponents like bowling pins and they stroke against the Netherlands, 88-50, to advance to the Semi-Finals of the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women, in Oradea, Romania.

The Iberians were literally unstoppable and after two almost identical quarters, they were leading 44-23 at halftime, with 22 of those points coming from inside the paint. Astou Ndour dominated the battle under the basket, and scored four points in a 7-0 run that opened the game. The Dutch tried to hit back, behind a three-pointer by Jamailah Adams and two free throws by Kourtney Treffers, but their individual oriented offense was not a big threat for the aggressive Spain defense. Andrea Vilaró took care of the opponents' best scorer, Loyce Betonvil, and the Dutch player went scoreless for the first 16 minutes of the game, finishing with six at halftime. Vilaro was all over the court and she used her penetration skills to open scoring opportunities for her team-mates. She already had four assists after twenty minutes. Sara Rodriguez scored three consecutive baskets to push the lead to 18-7 in the first quarter.

She was unstoppable also in the start of the second when she added five more points in a row including a three-point play to give Spain their biggest lead till that point, 27-11.

A steal and an easy lay-up on a fast break by Inmaculada Zanoguera made it 55-27 for Spain. She than added another tough jump-shot from the corner to extend the lead to 21 points, 58-27. Spain had so many offensive threats that the Dutch defense was overwhelmed. In the third quarter it was Itziae Llobet who stole the show, scoring eight points, while helped by centers Astou Ndour and Leyre Carrascosa, who combined for 10 points in this period.

Spain entered the final ten minutes with a staggering 32-point advantage on the scoreboard, 70-38. The Netherlands balanced the battle somehow in the last quarter, with the Spanish coach Miguel Martinez Mendez giving minutes to all his players from the bench. Spain finished with 21 assists, to only three of their opponents, underlining their superb team effort. They had five players in double digits with Rodriguez and Ndour leading the way. They finished with 13 points each, De Alfredo had 12, while Vilaro and Balart finished with 10 apiece. Vilaro also added three rebounds and five assists to her excellent all-arround performance.

Loyce Bettonvil scored 12 points while Maxime Essenstam had all of her 11 points after the break for the Netherlands. Gabrielle Van Den Bosch added six of her nine points in the final quarter and contributed also with three rebounds and three assists.
